Story of Musa (AS) and Fir‘aun in the Qur’an

The story of Musa (عليه السلام) and Fir‘aun is one of the most frequently mentioned narratives in the Qur’an, appearing across many Surahs (such as Al-Qasas, Taha, Al-A‘raf, Ash-Shu‘ara, Yunus). It is not just a story, but a complete model of the struggle between truth and falsehood.

1. Oppression of Fir‘aun.

Fir‘aun was a tyrant king in Egypt who:

Claimed: “I am your lord, the most high” (79:24)

Oppressed Bani Isra’il (Children of Israel)

Ordered the killing of newborn boys and spared girls

📖 “He slaughtered their sons and kept their women alive…” (28:4)

2. Birth of Musa (AS).

Allah protected Musa from being killed:

His mother was inspired to place him in a basket and set him in the river Nile

The baby was found and raised in Fir‘aun’s palace

“We inspired the mother of Musa…” (28:7)

SubhanAllah: The enemy raised the one who would destroy him.

3. Musa Leaves Egypt.

As a young man:

Musa accidentally killed an Egyptian while defending an Israelite

He repented and fled to Madyan (Midian)

“So he left it, fearful and watchful…” (28:21)

4. Prophethood Begins.

While returning from Madyan:

Musa saw a fire on Mount Tur (Sinai)

Allah spoke to him and made him a Prophet

“Indeed, I am Allah…” (20:14).

He was given miracles:

Staff turning into a snake

Shining hand

5. Musa Confronts Fir‘aun.

Allah commanded Musa and his brother Harun (AS):

To go to Fir‘aun and دعوت him to worship Allah

“Go to Fir‘aun, indeed he has transgressed…” (20:24)

Fir‘aun:

Rejected the message

Accused Musa of magic

6. The Contest with Magicians.

Fir‘aun gathered magicians to challenge Musa:

They threw their ropes, appearing as snakes

Musa’s staff turned into a real snake and swallowed their tricks

The magicians:

Immediately believed in Allah

Declared faith openly

“We believe in the Lord of Musa and Harun” (20:70)

Fir‘aun punished them, but they remained firm.

7. Signs and Punishments.

Allah sent several signs upon Fir‘aun’s people:

Flood

Locusts

Lice

Frogs

Blood

📖 (7:133)

👉 Yet Fir‘aun remained arrogant.

8. The Exodus and the Sea.

Allah commanded Musa to:

Lead Bani Isra’il out of Egypt

Fir‘aun chased them with his army.

When they reached the sea:

Musa struck the sea with his staff

The sea split into two paths

📖 “Strike the sea with your staff…” (26:63)

9. Destruction of Fir‘aun.

Musa and his people crossed safely

Fir‘aun followed arrogantly

The sea closed upon him and his army

📖 “So We drowned him and those with him…” (17:103)

At the moment of death:

Fir‘aun declared belief, but it was too late.

📖 “Now? While you disobeyed before…” (10:91)
