Short Khutbah (Sermon) on Surah Al-Kawthar

Khutbah Title: Gratitude, Sincerity, and True Success

First Khutbah:

All praise is due to Allah. We praise Him, seek His help, and ask for His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide; and whomsoever He leaves astray, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and Messenger.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Allah says in Surah Al-Kawthar:

> “Indeed, We have granted you Al-Kawthar. So pray to your Lord and sacrifice (to Him alone). Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.”

This short Surah carries powerful lessons for every believer.

Firstly, Allah reminds us of His countless blessings. Al-Kawthar means abundance—abundance of الخير, mercy, and favor. Just as Allah granted the Prophet ﷺ immense الخير, He has also given each of us blessings beyond what we can count. Our health, our faith, our families—these are all from Allah.

Secondly, Allah teaches us how to respond: “So pray to your Lord and sacrifice.” True gratitude is not just words like “Alhamdulillah”—it is shown through Salah, obedience, and sincerity. Worship Allah alone, without showing off or seeking praise from others.

Thirdly, Allah gives reassurance: “Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.” The Prophet ﷺ was mocked and insulted, yet Allah raised his status. Today, his name is mentioned across the world, while his enemies are forgotten.

So do not be discouraged by people’s words. Stay firm on your faith. Allah sees, Allah knows, and Allah rewards.

Surah Al-Kawthar teaches us that true success is not wealth, fame, or status—it is closeness to Allah. It is sincerity in worship and patience in hardship.

Let us increase in our prayers, remain sincere in our deeds, and trust in Allah’s plan. Remember that those who oppose the truth will fade away, but those who hold firmly to Allah will be honored.

May Allah make us among those who are grateful, sincere, and steadfast.

May He grant us from His abundance in this life and the next.
