At least seven children have been killed or injured every day in Lebanon since March as a result of the ongoing conflict, according to Save the Children.
The humanitarian organisation said at least 4,300 people have been killed and more than 12,000 wounded over the past six months. Among the casualties are at least 257 children killed and 1,039 injured.
Save the Children also reported that between 60 and 70 villages have been destroyed, while more than 348,800 people remain unable to return to their homes despite a ceasefire agreement reached in June.
The organisation warned that children continue to face serious risks from attacks, displacement and damage to civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals.
Nora Ingdal, Save the Children’s Lebanon country director, called on the international community to prevent the continued violence and destruction from becoming normal for children in Lebanon.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education has reported that 340 schools have been damaged or destroyed during the past six months. Save the Children estimates that at least 100,000 children could miss the next school year unless urgent efforts are made to repair and restore schools.
The conflict has also left large numbers of families displaced, particularly in southern Lebanon, where many communities have suffered extensive destruction.
Save the Children said that even children who have returned home continue to face difficulties accessing essential services, including education and healthcare.
