A rescued National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, David Ayodele, has recounted the terrifying experience he and other victims endured after being abducted in Kogi State.
Ayodele was among 15 NYSC members and six other Nigerians rescued from a kidnappers’ hideout in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The victims were reportedly abducted while travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing their NYSC orientation programme and undergoing relocation.
According to Ayodele, the kidnappers ordered the passengers out of their vehicle at gunpoint after the driver attempted to escape. The victims were then taken deep into the forest while the kidnappers fired shots into the air.
He said the abductees were subjected to physical abuse, including flogging, kicking and verbal threats as they were forced to trek through the bush.
After reaching a secluded area, the kidnappers allegedly told them they would remain in the forest for one month before being killed.
The threat created fear among the victims, who were warned not to move without permission or risk being shot.
Ayodele said the group was eventually rescued after trekking for a long distance, expressing gratitude to the Nigerian Army and other security personnel involved in the operation.
He also commended the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and local hunters for their role in the rescue.
Ayodele explained that he had completed his NYSC orientation programme in Bayelsa State and was travelling to Abuja following his relocation when the vehicle carrying the corps members was intercepted.
The rescue brought an end to the ordeal of the 21 victims who had been held captive in the Ofu area of Kogi State.
