NDLEA Arrests 68 Suspected Drug Traffickers, Seizes Over 7,500kg of Narcotics in Edo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, arrested 68 suspected drug traffickers and seized 7,531.51kg of illicit drugs during operations across the state in August 2026.

The state commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, saying the arrests involved 34 males and 34 females.

According to him, the seizures included 7,524.83kg of cannabis sativa, 5.3311kg of psychotropic substances, 0.0668kg of methamphetamine and 34.8 litres of codeine syrup.

The NDLEA also destroyed four cannabis farms in Edo State. The farms, located in forests within Orhionmwon and Owan West Local Government Areas, covered a combined 2.573331 hectares and had an estimated yield of 6,433.33kg of cannabis.

Ofoyeju said the command would continue to intensify its operations against drug trafficking and cultivation while working with community leaders and other law-enforcement partners.

He added that although there were no convictions during the month because the Federal High Court was on vacation, three new cases were filed, while 87 cases remained pending.

Beyond enforcement, the command said it provided counselling to 23 people and enrolled 12 individuals in vocational training programmes such as tailoring, perfume-making and liquid-soap production.

The NDLEA also conducted five drug-abuse sensitisation programmes, which were attended by more than 2,150 people across the state.
