Gunmen have abducted the All Progressives Congress chairman of Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Fanka, after killing two people during a fresh attack on the community.
The attack reportedly occurred around 11pm on Monday when the armed men invaded the area and opened sporadic fire, forcing residents to flee.
A resident told PUNCH that the two victims were killed while attempting to prevent the gunmen from abducting Fanka.
The incident occurred less than 24 hours after gunmen killed the APC chairman of Rantan Ward in Bebeji Local Government Area, Alhaji Garba Buba, and another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma.
The latest attacks have raised fresh concerns about the worsening security situation in Kano, with suspected bandits and kidnappers targeting communities across the state.
Earlier, suspected bandits had attacked Chiromawa community in Garun Mallam Local Government Area, abducting the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo. He was later rescued by security operatives and residents, while three people were reportedly injured.
The attacks in Rogo, Bebeji and Garun Mallam occurred within roughly 72 hours.
The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, said on Monday that the Federal Government was developing a five-year defence and security plan in response to recent attacks in Kano.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command has launched an investigation into the attacks and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
