Xi Jinping to Visit Kyrgyzstan, Egypt in Major Diplomatic Tour

Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Kyrgyzstan and Egypt from August 30 to September 3, 2026, according to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Xi will first travel to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where he will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. The meeting will bring together leaders from member countries, including Russia and Iran. Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation and addressing major international and regional issues.

During his visit, Xi will also meet Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and participate in several official events.

From Kyrgyzstan, Xi will travel to Egypt, where he will meet President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Their talks are expected to focus on bilateral relations and efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.

The visit will be Xi’s first state visit to Egypt in 10 years and is being described by Beijing as particularly important for strengthening relations between the two countries.

The trip comes amid ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States, which has disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and affected global oil supplies. China has strong economic ties with the Middle East and has traditionally relied heavily on the region for crude oil imports.

The tour will be Xi’s second overseas trip of 2026, following his visit to North Korea in June.
