U.S. to Close Five Diplomatic Missions in Major Overseas Restructuring

The United States Department of State has informed Congress of plans to close five diplomatic missions in Canada, Japan, Indonesia, Cameroon, and Grenada as part of a broader effort to reduce costs and streamline America's diplomatic operations.

The affected missions include the U.S. Consulates in Winnipeg (Canada), Nagoya (Japan), and Medan (Indonesia), the Embassy Branch Office in Douala (Cameroon), and the U.S. Embassy in St. George's (Grenada).

According to officials familiar with the plan, the closures are part of the Trump administration's "America First" strategy, aimed at making the State Department more efficient and reducing government spending.

Critics argue that shrinking the U.S. diplomatic presence overseas could weaken American influence and create opportunities for rivals such as China and Russia to expand their global reach.

The State Department has not officially confirmed the closures but said it remains committed to maintaining an effective diplomatic network while following the required congressional notification process.
