US Moves to Extradite Philippine Pastor Apollo Quiboloy Over Sex Abuse, Trafficking Charges

The United States has formally requested the extradition of Philippine celebrity pastor Apollo Quiboloy, who is facing allegations of sex trafficking and sexual abuse involving his followers.

Philippine officials confirmed on Thursday that the request has been forwarded to the country's Department of Justice for legal review. Quiboloy, founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) church and a self-proclaimed "Appointed Son of God," is wanted by the FBI over charges that he operated a sex-trafficking scheme in the United States. Prosecutors allege that victims were manipulated through threats of "eternal damnation" and physical abuse.

Quiboloy has denied all allegations against him.

His lawyer said they could not comment on the extradition request because they had not yet received formal notice.

Under Philippine law, the Department of Justice must first determine whether the U.S. request meets legal requirements before filing an extradition petition in court, where judges will decide whether to approve the transfer.

The pastor is also facing several criminal cases in the Philippines, including charges related to the alleged sexual abuse of a child. He was arrested in September 2024 at the KOJC's 30-hectare compound in Davao City following a police operation.

Quiboloy, a longtime ally of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, has millions of followers across the country and has remained an influential figure in Philippine religious and political circles.
