The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported that two commercial vessels were attacked by one-way drones while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
According to separate UKMTO advisories, both vessels were struck by unmanned aerial vehicles as they travelled outbound through the strategically important waterway.
All crew members aboard the two vessels were reported safe, while no environmental damage or oil pollution was recorded following the incidents.
The attacks occurred amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, raising fresh concerns about the safety of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important routes for global energy supplies.
The incidents also come after US President Donald Trump claimed that the US Navy had established complete control over the Strait, describing the American blockade as “infallible.”
Despite the claim, the UKMTO reports indicate that commercial vessels remain exposed to security threats while navigating the waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime passage connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and is heavily used for international oil and gas shipments.
Meanwhile, Trump has demanded compensation from Iran for Americans killed or wounded in conflicts allegedly linked to Tehran, including the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen.
The USS Cole attack killed 17 US service members and injured dozens of others. The United States later attributed the attack to al-Qaeda.
Trump also accused Iran of killing large numbers of protesters over several decades and called for compensation for the families of those allegedly killed.
The latest UKMTO reports have further heightened concerns about maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to affect regional stability and commercial shipping.
Despite the reported drone attacks, UKMTO confirmed that all crew members were safe and that no pollution had been reported from either incident.
