Two Nigerians Charged With Murder of Fellow Nigerian in UK

Two Nigerian nationals, Maxwell Oguanaya, 32, and Chibueze Chukwurah, 34, have been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged murder of UK-based Nigerian Taiwo Ekerin in May 2026.

Ekerin reportedly died after suffering a severe head injury during a violent attack outside the Alpha Lounge nightclub on Lewisham High Street in London.

The Metropolitan Police launched a murder investigation, known as Operation Doughwall, following the incident. Oguanaya and Chukwurah were arrested and charged in Glasgow the following day.

According to Benjamin Kuti, founder of the Nigerians in the UK Community, the two suspects have been remanded in custody and are expected to stand trial.

If convicted of murder, they could face life imprisonment under UK law.

However, the suspects remain innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in court.
