Twins Secure NNPC Jobs Without Connections, Prove Family Members Can Be Hired.

Twins Secure NNPC Jobs Without Connections, Prove Family Members Can Be Hired.

Identical twin brothers, Hussaini and Hassan Malami, have secured positions with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as part of the 2026 recruitment exercise, despite having no connections within the company.

The brothers’ success has also challenged the widespread belief that NNPC does not recruit more than one person from the same family.

Hussaini had always wanted to work with NNPC and promptly applied when recruitment opened. He also encouraged his twin brother, Hassan, to apply.

Hassan was initially reluctant because he believed the company recruited only one person from each family. At the time, he was working in the banking sector and had aspirations of joining the Nigerian Air Force.

His doubts were further influenced by the experience of their three older siblings—a lawyer, an engineer and a business administrator—who had previously applied to NNPC but were unsuccessful.

However, after repeated encouragement from Hussaini, Hassan eventually submitted his application shortly before the deadline.

The twins took the computer-based recruitment test on the same day but at different locations. Hussaini wrote his test in Sokoto, while Hassan took his in Kaduna.

Following the subsequent stages of the recruitment process, including interviews, both brothers received their employment letters on the same day.

Hussaini now works with NNPC Exploration & Production Limited, while Hassan has joined the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company.

For Hassan, the new role has given him the opportunity to gain a better understanding of Nigeria’s gas industry and its contribution to power generation and manufacturing.

He said the experience had changed his perception of corporate employment and now sees his role at NNPC as another way of serving the country.

Hassan, however, still hopes to pursue military service before reaching the age limit in 2030.

Meanwhile, Hussaini said his new career has strengthened his desire to contribute to society. He also hopes to return to his university someday as a guest lecturer to share his professional experience with students.

The twins urged young Nigerians interested in working with NNPC not to be discouraged by rumours about the recruitment process.

“Apply, take the test and earn your place,” they advised, stressing that applicants do not necessarily need to know anyone within NNPC to secure employment.

Their experience demonstrates that members of the same family can both secure employment opportunities at NNPC, provided they meet the requirements and successfully pass through the recruitment process.
