16-Year-Old Senator Natasha’s Daughter Builds and Furnishes Orphanage in Kogi.

A 16-year-old daughter of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Nadia Zakaria, has built and furnished an orphanage home in Etahi Community, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The Oyiza-Salem Divine Orphanage Home was officially commissioned on Saturday in the presence of community members, religious leaders and children.

Nadia, who began planning the project at the age of 15, said she was inspired by a desire to help children who lacked the opportunities and support that many others take for granted.

She explained that raising funds for the project was challenging but that she received support from family, friends and members of the wider community.

«“You don’t have to be older, richer or more powerful to make a difference. You just have to care enough to start,” Nadia said.»

Speaking directly to the children, she urged them to remain hopeful and assured them that they deserved love, security and opportunities to pursue their dreams.

‘I Did Not Contribute One Kobo’ — Senator Natasha

Senator Natasha said she did not financially support the construction of the orphanage, stressing that her daughter raised the money for the project herself.

“My daughter raised the money for this building herself. I did not contribute one kobo,” the senator said.

She disclosed that Nadia was already planning another humanitarian project—a care home for pregnant women in Kogi Central.

The founder of the orphanage, Pastor Kisito Adomu Zuberu, described the transformation as remarkable, recalling that some of the children previously slept on the ground due to inadequate facilities.

He said the new building had provided the children with a safer and better environment.

According to him, several of the children are already pursuing education and vocational training. Two are in university, one is studying nursing, another has graduated from the University of Abuja, while others are attending primary school or learning skills such as tailoring.

The management and children of the orphanage expressed gratitude to Nadia and Senator Natasha, describing the project as an exceptional act of love that had given them hope, dignity, security and a place they could call home.

The initiative was widely praised by participants as an inspiring example of youth-led humanitarian service in Kogi State.
