Member of the House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, Abdulmumin Jibrin, says President Bola Tinubu has performed excellently and rewarded Kano State with more than 40 key political appointments in the Federal Government.
Jibrin made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Thursday.
According to him, the appointments demonstrate Tinubu’s commitment to Kano and should encourage residents of the state to support the President in the 2027 election.
> “He has done excellently well, and you know what, he has given Kano over 40—underline the word, 40—political appointments, key appointments in the Federal Government. Why will Kano people not vote for him?” Jibrin said.
He mentioned several Kano indigenes who have been appointed to important federal positions, including Mariya Bunkure as Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as Chairman of the FAAN Board, and Nasiru Gawuna as Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank.
However, the report noted that the claim of more than 40 key appointments could not be independently verified from publicly available records.
Addressing concerns over the hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians, including poverty, hunger and rising economic pressure, Jibrin argued that communication had previously prevented citizens from fully appreciating some of the government’s achievements.
He cited the completion of the Bichi railway station and activities at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital as examples of projects and services that he said residents were becoming more aware of.
Jibrin also praised the Kano State Government for its infrastructure projects, particularly the construction of rural roads.
He said each local government area was completing about five kilometres of roads, while the state government was also constructing and renovating schools and healthcare centres.
> “He’s building classes, he’s renovating classes, he’s building health centres, he’s renovating existing health centres, he’s turned Kano to a construction site,” he said.
On poverty and hunger, Jibrin acknowledged that the problems remained serious but argued that they had existed under successive Nigerian administrations.
He said governments should be judged by the efforts they make to address such challenges rather than simply by the existence of poverty.
Jibrin cited the administrations of Muhammadu Buhari, Goodluck Jonathan, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Olusegun Obasanjo and Sani Abacha, saying Nigerians had complained about hunger during each of those administrations.
He therefore maintained that the Tinubu administration should be assessed based on its efforts to tackle the country’s longstanding economic challenges.
