Three sisters from the same family have drowned after the boat they were travelling in capsized at Tiga Dam in Tudunwada Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, according to relatives of the victims.
The deceased were identified as Murjanatu, Atikatu and Bilkisu, popularly known as Amira. They were all residents of Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community in the area.
The Chairman of Tudunwada Local Government Area and Kano State Chairperson of the Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGON), Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Soja, confirmed the incident in a statement.
She expressed condolences to the victims’ families and the entire Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community over the tragic loss.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the people of Yalwan Rugu-Rugu over this painful incident,” she said.
She also prayed for Allah to forgive the deceased, have mercy on them and grant their families the strength to cope with the loss.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the Kano State Police Command or the Kano State Fire Service regarding the incident or rescue efforts.
