Tambuwal Condemns Fresh Sokoto Attacks, Calls for Stronger Security Measures

Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has called for stronger and better-coordinated security efforts following renewed attacks by armed groups in several communities across Sokoto State.

In a statement released through his media office, Tambuwal expressed concern over recent violent incidents in Kebbe, Shagari, and Sabon Birni Local Government Areas, where gunmen reportedly killed residents, abducted several people, rustled livestock, and forced many families to flee their homes.

The senator also mourned the death of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Hussaini Balarabe, who was killed while confronting armed bandits during an operation in Kebbe Local Government Area. He described the officer as a courageous patriot whose sacrifice reflects the dedication of security personnel working to protect Nigerians.

Tambuwal extended his condolences to the family of the fallen officer, the Nigeria Police Force, and the people of Kebbe, while sympathising with residents of Shagari and Sabon Birni over the persistent attacks, kidnappings, and destruction affecting their communities.

He noted that the worsening insecurity across Sokoto and the wider North-West continues to threaten public safety, disrupt farming and business activities, and undermine the socio-economic wellbeing of rural communities.

While commending the efforts of the military, police, and other security agencies, Tambuwal urged the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, surveillance, rapid response capabilities, and coordinated security operations in vulnerable areas.

He also appealed for sustained efforts to rescue those still being held captive and ensure that those responsible for the attacks are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The former governor further encouraged traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to support security agencies by providing credible intelligence that could help prevent future attacks.

Tambuwal concluded by praying for those who lost their lives, wishing the injured a speedy recovery, and expressing hope for the safe return of all kidnapped victims, stressing that the people of Sokoto deserve to live in peace and security.
