Senator Rufai Hanga Resigns from NDC Ahead of 2027 Elections

Senator Rufai Hanga, who represents Kano Central Senatorial District, has resigned from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Hanga, regarded as a close political ally of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, announced his resignation in a letter dated August 3, 2026, addressed to the NDC Chairman of Dakata Ward.

In the letter, the senator said his decision followed careful reflection and personal deliberation.

> "I am writing to formally notify you of my resignation from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), effective from today, August 3, 2026. After careful reflection and personal deliberation, I have decided to withdraw my membership from the party to pursue other personal commitments and career paths," he stated.

Hanga expressed appreciation to the ward executives and party members for their support during his time in the party, saying he valued the relationships and experiences gained through his political activities.

He also returned his party membership card and requested that his name be removed from the party's membership register at the ward level.

While wishing the NDC and its members success in the future, the senator did not reveal which political party or platform he plans to join next.

His resignation is expected to fuel speculation over possible political realignments as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
