Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan have agreed to establish a permanent secretariat in Saudi Arabia to coordinate activities under their newly signed joint defence agreement.
The decision was announced on Monday following a meeting of representatives from the three countries in Istanbul, Turkey.
Under the agreement, the secretariat will initially be headed by a Pakistani secretary-general for a three-year term.
The three countries said they would work together to strengthen their collective defence capabilities, improve coordination and enhance cohesion among their armed forces.
The Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, signed earlier in August, is aimed at strengthening collective deterrence against potential acts of aggression.
A key provision of the agreement states that an armed attack against any one of the three countries would be regarded as an attack against all three.
The latest meeting brought together senior foreign and defence officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan as the countries begin implementing the defence pact.
The agreement comes amid heightened security concerns and growing regional tensions, with the three countries seeking closer military and strategic cooperation.
