Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has appealed to residents and political stakeholders to avoid politicizing the state's security challenges, urging instead for prayers, unity, and cooperation with security agencies to restore lasting peace.
The governor made the appeal during the 2026 Yaumul Shukur (Thanksgiving Day) celebration, held to commemorate the 1934 merger of the former Katsina and Daura Provinces.
Radda described insecurity as a shared challenge that requires collective action rather than political exploitation. He emphasized that the annual thanksgiving event is an opportunity to express gratitude to Allah and seek continued peace and protection for the state.
The governor praised Katsina's rich history and paid tribute to distinguished sons of the state, including former Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari, as well as respected jurists and Islamic scholars who contributed to the state's development.
He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to improving security, noting that the Katsina State Community Watch Corps has been recruited, trained, and equipped to work alongside conventional security agencies.
Radda also commended the military, police, and Community Watch Corps for recent joint operations that reportedly eliminated more than 40 bandits, including a notorious criminal leader.
He warned politicians against using the deaths of innocent citizens for political advantage, stressing that protecting lives and property must remain the government's top priority.
Also speaking at the event, the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk Umar, urged residents to preserve the longstanding spirit of unity and brotherhood shared between the people of Katsina and Daura.
