The Presidency has said Afrobeat singer **David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, would not be able to make the same claims or social-media comments he made during the recent Osun State governorship election in countries such as Rwanda or Ethiopia.
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, made the statement during an interview with Symfoni TV.
Ajayi accused Davido of actively supporting his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, during the August 15 governorship election. He said the singer’s social-media activities were partisan because Davido was involved in the campaign and wanted his uncle to win.
The presidential aide, however, acknowledged that Nigeria’s democratic system allows citizens to express their views freely on social media.
He argued that Davido would face consequences for making what he described as reckless or unsupported allegations in countries such as Rwanda and Ethiopia, warning that such claims could potentially incite violence.
Ajayi maintained that while freedom of expression is protected in Nigeria, public figures should exercise responsibility when making claims about sensitive political matters.
