The Edo State Police Command has rescued four people who were abducted by suspected kidnappers during a coordinated security operation along the Lagos–Benin Expressway.
According to the police, the incident occurred on the night of July 30, 2026, when three armed men disguised in vigilante uniforms blocked the Ugbokun section of the highway near a military checkpoint using logs and leaves. The attackers reportedly stopped passing vehicles and forced several occupants into a nearby forest.
Following a distress report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okada Division mobilized a joint rescue team comprising police officers, members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), local hunters, and other security personnel.
Security operatives launched an intensive search operation, supported by drone technology, to track the kidnappers. The sustained pressure forced the suspects to abandon their captives and flee.
The four rescued victims—Muritala Babatunde, Bello Aminat, Otor Prince, and Yeiyah Gift—were found unharmed and have since been reunited with their families.
The Edo State Police Command praised the courage and professionalism of all personnel involved in the operation and reaffirmed its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
Police also confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support security operations.
