The Ogun State Police Command has reported that its Anti-Kidnapping Unit killed two suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted professional truck driver during a counter-operation in the state.
The police also recovered two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of live ammunition, two mobile phones, and ₦2 million, which was suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, the truck driver was abducted on August 25, 2026, at about 11:10 p.m. in the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State.
Following the report, officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an operation to rescue the victim and arrest the kidnappers.
The police said operatives, acting on credible intelligence, raided the kidnappers’ hideout along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road. During the operation, two suspected kidnappers were killed, while other members of the gang escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries.
A search of the hideout led to the recovery of the two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of ammunition, two mobile phones and ₦2 million in cash.
The bodies of the two suspected kidnappers were deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while police intensified efforts to track down the fleeing members of the gang.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its courage and professionalism. He said the operation demonstrated the command’s determination to pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals.
He assured residents that Ogun State would remain a difficult environment for criminals and urged members of the public to provide useful information to security agencies, particularly about anyone seeking medical treatment for gunshot wounds.
