The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the abduction of three newly graduated military recruits along the Anka–Bukuyum Road in Zamfara State.
According to the command, the suspects were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted on August 1, 2026, following credible information received by security operatives.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, identified the suspects as Abubakar Mallan Abubakar, a resident of Gargam Village in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, and Usman Muhammadu from Ajera in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects provided useful information regarding the kidnapping of the three military recruits, who were abducted in July 2026 along the Kwanan Mayanchi–Gurusu axis of Zamfara State.
Police confirmed that one of the victims, Kabiru Hassan, is from Ribah in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, while the other two recruits are from Zuru Local Government Area. All three victims have since regained their freedom.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Mohammed Hadejia, praised the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command's commitment to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting everyone linked to the abduction and other criminal activities.
He also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information to strengthen efforts against crime and improve public safety across the state.
