Osun APC stakeholders have blamed former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, for the party’s defeat in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, won the election with 511,067 votes, defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
In an open letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, the Osun APC Stakeholders Forum alleged that Oyetola dominated the party’s candidate-selection process and appointed allies and associates to several federal political positions.
The group claimed that Oyetola failed to adequately consult party elders and other stakeholders, leaving sections of the APC dissatisfied and weakening the party’s support across the state.
The forum listed 26 federal political appointees whom it alleged were closely associated with Oyetola’s political camp. It also accused him of being responsible for the selection of the party’s governorship and deputy governorship candidates, as well as candidates for the National Assembly and state House of Assembly.
According to the stakeholders, the alleged exclusion of other party members contributed significantly to the APC’s poor performance in the election.
They urged President Tinubu to order an independent review of the Osun APC leadership structure and its candidate-selection process.
The group also called for a reconciliation meeting involving Oyetola, party elders and aggrieved stakeholders, under the supervision of the APC National Working Committee.
The stakeholders proposed a more inclusive and transparent system for selecting future candidates and making federal appointments in Osun State.
They expressed confidence that Tinubu’s intervention could help reunite the party, rebuild members’ confidence and strengthen the APC ahead of future elections.
