The Nigerian Army has opened applications for the Short Service Combatant Commission (SSCC) Course 50/2027, inviting qualified civilians and serving military personnel to apply.
According to a recruitment notice issued by the Army on Tuesday, successful applicants will be commissioned as officers and deployed to Combat Arms, including the Infantry and Armour Corps, as well as Combat Support Arms such as Artillery, Engineers, Signals and Intelligence.

Recruitment Requirements
Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth and must be between 23 and 27 years old as of January 10, 2027.
Candidates are also required to be medically, mentally and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards.
Male applicants must be at least 1.68 metres tall, while female applicants must have a minimum height of 1.65 metres.
Academically, applicants must possess at least a first degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division or an HND with at least Lower Credit in the arts, sciences or humanities from an accredited institution.
The Army stated that only tertiary qualifications obtained from 2018 to date will be accepted.
Civilian applicants must possess an NYSC discharge certificate, while serving military personnel are required to provide an NYSC exemption certificate.
Civilian candidates must also obtain an attestation letter from their degree-awarding institution and secure recommendations from at least two recognised referees who meet the specified requirements.
Applicants must not have been convicted by any court, belong to any cult or secret society, or have body inscriptions or tattoos.
How to Apply
Interested candidates are required to visit the official Nigerian Army recruitment platform and select the SSCC option.
Applicants will be required to register with a valid email address. A verification link will then be sent to the email, after which candidates can create a password and log in to complete the application.
The required documents include:
- Recent passport photograph
- Educational certificates
- Certificate of State of Origin
- Birth certificate or age declaration
- NIN slip
- BVN slip
The Nigerian Army stressed that the application is free of charge.
It also warned applicants to disregard any recruitment portal or announcement claiming to have opened applications before the official recruitment notice, advising candidates to rely only on information released through official Nigerian Army channels.
Commission Duration
Successful SSCC officers will receive a 15-year commission, with 10 years serving as the initial bonding period on the active list.
The commission may subsequently be renewed for a period not exceeding five years.
The Army also stated that SSCC officers may have the opportunity to convert to a Regular Combatant Commission. However, such conversion is not automatic and will depend on available vacancies and other applicable requirements.
The Army urged applicants to complete their forms accurately, warning that incorrect information could lead to disqualification.
Applications for SSCC Course 50/2027 are scheduled to close on October 17, 2026.
