The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. The statement was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on Friday.
The minister congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and around the world and urged citizens to reflect on the Prophet’s teachings, particularly compassion, humility and service to others.
Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to pray for peace, unity and national cohesion, stressing that maintaining peace is a collective responsibility.
He encouraged Nigerians to celebrate the occasion peacefully and responsibly, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
As a result of the declaration, workers across Nigeria will observe Tuesday, August 25, as a public holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid.
