Nepal Flood Rescue Halted After Dammed Lake Begins Overflowing

Authorities in Nepal temporarily suspended rescue operations in the flood-hit Rasuwa district on Friday after a dammed lake near the Nepal-China border began overflowing.

According to Reuters, an army officer said helicopter rescue operations were stopped for about 90 minutes because of concerns that the overflowing lake could pose a serious threat to people in the surrounding areas.

Residents were reportedly seen rushing towards higher ground as fears grew over a possible sudden release of water from the barrier lake.

The area has been severely affected by flash floods and mudslides, with rescue teams working to evacuate people and locate those affected by the disaster.

The situation remained closely monitored as authorities assessed the risk posed by the rising water level.
