NDLEA Arrests 80 Suspects in Kano Drug Raid

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 80 suspects during a week-long operation targeting illicit drug activities across Kano State.

The arrests were made between August 10 and 16 as part of Operation Restore Order, an initiative aimed at dismantling drug joints and creating safer communities across the state.

According to the NDLEA spokesman in Kano, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the operation was carried out on the directive of the agency’s Chairman, Buba Marwa, and led by the Kano State Commander, Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal.

Operatives conducted coordinated raids on 16 identified drug joints using a “dislodge-and-occupy” strategy. The locations included Filin Mahaha, Koki, Dorayi, Rijiyar Lemo, Charanchi, Kasuwar Kurmi, Zage, Gwammaja, Sauna, Wambai, Yan Ayaba, Indabawa, Bela Village, Farm Centre, Masaka and Panshekara.

The agency also recovered various illicit substances and items allegedly used in drug-related activities, including cannabis sativa, diazepam, Exol-5, rubber solution, “suck and die,” cutting agents and packaging materials.

Locally manufactured weapons and other tools believed to be associated with the illicit trade were also recovered during the raids.

Yahaya-Lawal said the operation was intelligence-led and would be sustained and expanded based on available intelligence.

He warned individuals involved in illicit drug activities to desist, stressing that the agency would continue working to make Kano free of illegal drugs.

The commander said the arrested suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law, while investigations would continue to uncover and dismantle wider drug trafficking networks.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the nearest NDLEA office or through the agency’s official communication channels.

According to him, continued community cooperation and intelligence sharing would be essential to sustaining the gains of the operation and bringing major offenders to justice.
