The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) has officially lifted its suspension on Christian pilgrimage to Israel after determining that the security situation in the Holy Land has improved.
The announcement was made on August 1, 2026, by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, during a visit to the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.
The suspension, which was imposed in February following tensions linked to the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict, has now been removed after an on-the-ground assessment by NCPC officials.
Bishop Adegbite said Jerusalem is peaceful and safe for pilgrims, adding that Nigerian Christians can now resume pilgrimages to Israel through Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv. However, he noted that travel through Jordan remains suspended due to ongoing security concerns.
He reassured intending pilgrims that the Commission remains committed to ensuring their safety, emphasizing that previous pilgrimage groups returned to Nigeria without incident.
The NCPC boss also offered prayers for peace in Israel and Nigeria, praying for President Bola Tinubu, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, government officials, and lasting peace across all regions of the country.
The Commission expressed confidence that the 2026 pilgrimage exercise will be conducted safely and successfully.
