Muslim World League Chief Arrives Abuja for Major Interfaith Peace Conference

The Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Dr Mohammad Al-Issa, has arrived in Abuja to participate in a two-day international interfaith peace conference aimed at promoting religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence and sustainable development.

The conference is being jointly organised by the Muslim World League and Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS).

Al-Issa was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by the Minister of Information, Dr Bosun Tijani; the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate; Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu; and members of JIBWIS.

The conference is expected to bring together prominent Muslim and Christian leaders, religious scholars and other stakeholders from Nigeria and beyond.

Chairman of the Conference Committee, Garba Mohammed, said Al-Issa and his delegation were in Nigeria primarily to participate in the event, which he described as an important international gathering with potential implications for Nigeria’s peace, development and social cohesion.

According to him, the conference is not limited to Islamic affairs but is focused on promoting peaceful coexistence and development for humanity as a whole.

The event is also expected to witness the signing of the Abuja Declaration, an initiative involving Muslim and Christian leaders aimed at strengthening peace-building efforts across Nigeria and West Africa.

The declaration is expected to establish mechanisms for preventing religious tensions from escalating into violence while encouraging religious leaders to promote moderation, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

More than 50 senior representatives from various Muslim and Christian sects and traditions are expected to endorse the declaration.

Al-Issa, who is widely known for his advocacy of moderate Islam and interfaith dialogue, is also expected to highlight the Muslim World League’s efforts to strengthen relations among religious communities across West Africa.
