Mexican social media influencer Cesar Gastelum has been shot dead while livestreaming on TikTok in Culiacán, the capital of Sinaloa state, authorities have confirmed.
Gastelum, who had more than 650,000 followers on TikTok, was attacked on Tuesday while sitting with two other people in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant. According to investigators, two armed men arrived on a motorcycle, and one of them opened fire before both suspects fled the scene.
The incident occurred near the office of the local prosecutor. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the attack, describing it as a tragic crime and calling for those behind the murder to be arrested and brought to justice.
Officials said Gastelum had posted videos that appeared to reference one of the criminal factions operating in Sinaloa. The state has witnessed escalating violence due to an ongoing conflict between rival groups linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.
This marks the second high-profile killing of a Mexican influencer during a TikTok livestream. In May 2025, beauty influencer Valeria Márquez was fatally shot while broadcasting live in Jalisco. The case drew international attention and led to U.S. sanctions against several leaders of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), including suspects allegedly connected to her death.
Mexican authorities say investigations into Gastelum's killing are ongoing, with security agencies working to identify the attackers and determine whether the crime is linked to organized criminal groups.I can also rewrite it in a shorter, punchier newspaper style if you're publishing it on Hausalive News.
