Former federal lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, says he will institute legal action against President Bola Tinubu over the appointment of Dr Zacch Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), as Deputy Director of Fundraising for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday unveiled members of its campaign council, with Adedeji’s inclusion attracting controversy and criticism from some Nigerians.
Critics have questioned whether the appointment creates a conflict of interest, given Adedeji’s position as head of the government agency responsible for collecting national revenue.
Reacting to the development in a video shared on his Facebook page, Melaye said the matter should be tested in court.
He argued that it was inappropriate for the head of a public revenue-collecting agency to occupy a senior fundraising position in a presidential campaign.
“The most disturbing part of the list released by the APC is seeing the chairman of the Nigerian Revenue Service, the body that collects our revenue, serving as Director in charge of fundraising for Tinubu’s presidential campaign,” Melaye said.
He added that, as a lawyer, he would approach the court to determine whether the appointment amounted to a conflict of interest.
Melaye also questioned the propriety of a public official, who receives a government salary and is expected to comply with public service regulations, taking an active role in fundraising for a presidential candidate.
