Lula and Flavio Bolsonaro Neck and Neck Ahead of Brazil Presidential Election

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and right-wing Senator Flavio Bolsonaro are virtually tied ahead of Brazil’s October presidential election, according to a new Nexus poll commissioned by lender BTG Pactual.

The poll showed Lula receiving 46% support in a potential second-round runoff, compared with 45% for Bolsonaro.

An earlier poll conducted on August 17 had Lula ahead of Bolsonaro by 47% to 44%.

In a first-round scenario, Lula leads with 41%, followed by Bolsonaro with 37%. Ronaldo Caiado has 5%, while Renan Santos and Romeu Zema each have 3%.

If no candidate secures more than 50% of valid votes in the first round, the two leading candidates will advance to a runoff.

The Nexus poll surveyed 2,006 people between August 21 and 23, with a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
