The Kaduna State Police Command has rescued 75 kidnapped victims, including men, women and children, after armed kidnappers abducted them in Folwaya Village near Birnin Gwari.
The victims, who were identified as Fulani travellers, were reportedly travelling in commercial buses when they were attacked around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the victims were abducted by gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons and taken into a forest. The kidnappers later hid them inside a cave in a mountainous area.
Police received information about the abduction from the Birnin Gwari branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and immediately deployed a tactical team to the area.
The arrival of the police operatives forced the kidnappers to flee, abandoning all 75 victims. The victims were subsequently rescued unharmed.
The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended the NURTW officials for providing timely information that helped facilitate the rescue operation. He also praised the Birnin Gwari Area Commander and his team for their swift response.
The police commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
He also warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that such actions could endanger innocent lives.
