The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State suffered a major political setback on Saturday after hundreds of its members defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The defectors were received in Takai Local Government Area by the NDC senatorial candidate for Kano South, Dr. Kassim Ibrahim Bataiya.
The development comes amid a wave of political defections in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections. Several APC members have reportedly joined the NDC since former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, emerged as the party’s vice-presidential candidate.
At the same time, some politicians from Kwankwaso’s political camp have also reportedly defected to the ruling APC as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political observers have predicted a tough contest in Kano, particularly as Kwankwaso and his former political ally and current Kano State Governor, Kabir Yusuf, prepare for a battle for political dominance in the state.
The latest defections could further reshape the political landscape in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections.
