Kano Lawmaker Defects to PDP as Ondo APC Aspirant Challenges Primary Election Result

A member of the Kano State House of Assembly, Sule Shuwaki, has defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing consultations with his family, supporters and political associates.

Shuwaki, who represents Tudun Wada Constituency, announced his resignation from the APC in a letter read during plenary by the Speaker of the Assembly, Ismail Falgore.

The lawmaker, who failed to secure the APC’s return ticket for another term, said his decision followed extensive consultations and deep reflection. He added that the consultations had delayed the formal presentation of his resignation letter.

Shuwaki expressed appreciation to the APC leadership at the ward, local government, state and national levels for the support he received during his time in the party.

Speaker Falgore also disclosed that the Assembly leadership had held several discussions with Shuwaki in an effort to persuade him to reconsider his decision.

Following the defection, the APC now has 37 lawmakers in the 40-member Kano State House of Assembly, while two lawmakers belong to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and one to the PDP.

Meanwhile, an APC aspirant for the Ifedore/Idanre Federal Constituency in Ondo State, Rasaq Obe, has vowed to challenge the outcome of the party’s recent primary election.

Obe alleged that the results of the primary were manipulated to deny him what he described as his rightful mandate. He said he was prepared to seek legal redress within the stipulated period.

Speaking in Akure during a solidarity visit by party leaders and members of his constituency, Obe denied reports that he had questioned President Bola Tinubu’s chances of securing victory in Ondo State in the 2027 elections.

He explained that his comments during a television interview were aimed at promoting unity within the APC and the state, rather than undermining the President.

Obe urged his supporters to remain loyal to the APC and support the party’s candidates at all levels in the 2027 elections.

He also pledged his continued support for Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, describing him as the leader of the APC in the state. Obe warned that attempts to undermine the governor could weaken the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
