Kano Government Declares September 1 Public Holiday for Takutaha

The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday, September 1, 2026, a work-free day to allow residents to observe Takutaha, an annual traditional occasion celebrated across the state.

The directive was contained in Circular No. 7/2026, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Abba Danguguwa, on behalf of the Head of Service. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved the declaration.

The government said the holiday coincides with 19th Rabi’ul Awwal, 1448 AH, and described Takutaha as an occasion of significant cultural importance and part of Kano’s Islamic heritage.

Residents and civil servants were encouraged to use the day for prayers, supplications and spiritual reflection, particularly to seek peace, unity, stability and prosperity for Kano State and Nigeria.

The government also urged residents to celebrate peacefully, strengthen community ties and promote peaceful coexistence.

All heads of ministries, departments and agencies were directed to comply with the directive. However, essential services will continue operating to ensure uninterrupted delivery of critical public services.
