Iran has warned that United States forces could face serious consequences if Washington continues its naval blockade of Iranian ports, as tensions between the two countries remain high despite ongoing diplomatic contacts.
Senior Iranian military adviser Mohsen Rezaei said US vessels and personnel would be at "serious risk" if the blockade persists. He also declared that Iran would not permit any vessel to use what it described as unauthorized routes through the Strait of Hormuz, warning that hostile ships could be targeted.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran are continuing, describing them as Tehran's "last chance" to reach an agreement and end the five-month conflict. However, Iranian officials have continued to publicly deny that formal talks with Washington are taking place.
Rezaei also revealed that Iran had planned military strikes against three locations in Ukraine following a July 25 attack on an Iranian ship in the Caspian Sea. According to him, the operation was cancelled after Ukraine apologized and assured Tehran that the attack was unintentional.
Elsewhere, Iraq said it is engaged in discussions with Iran aimed at ensuring the safe movement of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, expressing optimism that an agreement could be reached to protect maritime trade.
The United Nations has also condemned the rising number of civilian deaths in Gaza, urging the protection of hospitals and medical facilities amid intensified Israeli military operations.
Shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait remains below normal levels, while uncertainty surrounding the crisis has continued to push global oil prices higher.
