Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of influencing the United States to enter a war with Iran, describing the Israeli leader as a “serpent.”
Araghchi made the remarks on Monday in a post on X, alleging that Netanyahu had publicly boasted about persuading the US administration to take military action against Iran.
According to the Iranian foreign minister, Netanyahu claimed in Hebrew that he had influenced American public opinion through extensive appearances on US television networks, while praising US President Donald Trump’s leadership when speaking in English.
“Serpent,” Araghchi added in his post.
The accusations come amid continued tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel following the outbreak of war on February 28. US-Israeli strikes reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with senior military officials.
Iran subsequently launched retaliatory attacks across the region, widening the conflict.
An April ceasefire brought an end to the most intense phase of the fighting, but sporadic clashes, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, have continued to undermine prospects for a lasting peace agreement.
Washington has also shifted towards what it describes as a campaign of “economic asphyxiation” aimed at increasing pressure on Iran.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu has remained strongly opposed to diplomatic engagement with Tehran. He previously campaigned against the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement negotiated during Barack Obama’s presidency.
The latest exchange of accusations comes as tensions remain high following renewed US strikes on Iran and retaliatory attacks by Tehran against US-linked military positions in the region.
