Indian police have arrested a 26-year-old Nigerian man, Chidera Jonathan, for allegedly possessing 23.74 grams of MDMA, a controlled drug, in New Delhi.
Jonathan was arrested on Wednesday at the Civic Centre in the Kamla Market area following a tip-off about a Nigerian national allegedly involved in supplying drugs in the district.
According to Indian authorities, Jonathan was also wanted under Operation VISTA, an initiative targeting foreign nationals who remain in India after their visas have expired.
Police said Jonathan entered India in October 2024 on a medical visa as a medical attendant but remained in the country after his visa expired.
During questioning, he allegedly told investigators that he obtained the MDMA from another Nigerian identified as Prince, who was believed to be living in Tughlakabad Extension.
Jonathan reportedly told police that he became involved in drug trafficking to raise money for his daily expenses.
