Dino Melaye Claims Tinubu Went on Vacation Amid Political Attacks

Former Kogi State lawmaker Dino Melaye has claimed that President Bola Tinubu embarked on a three-week vacation following a series of political attacks from the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar.

Melaye made the claim in a post on his verified X account, saying the President needed to take time away to “reset” after facing increasing criticism from Atiku.

The former lawmaker also alleged that Tinubu’s decision to spend time away from the country was linked to the release of documents relating to his past activities in the United States.

According to Melaye, the 399-page documents allegedly containing records concerning Tinubu had created political difficulties for the President.

He further claimed that American security agencies had submitted the documents to a US court and alleged that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had previously investigated Tinubu.

Melaye also questioned whether Tinubu would attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, scheduled to open on September 8, 2026.

He claimed that, based on what he described as Tinubu’s records in the United States, the President would be unlikely to travel to America for the UNGA meeting.

“Tinubu needs to run somewhere for a reset after the series of salvos served on him, in sequence, by Atiku Abubakar,” Melaye said.

He also criticised the Presidency over its earlier announcement that Tinubu would participate in the high-level general debate of the UN General Assembly.

Melaye alleged that the government had not been completely transparent about the President’s plans, adding that he had expected Tinubu’s absence from the United States.

However, the allegations made by Melaye are political claims and were not independently established in the report.
