Authorities in British Columbia have declared a provincial state of emergency as rapidly spreading wildfires continue to threaten communities across western Canada.
Thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate their homes as firefighters battle multiple blazes amid dangerous and rapidly changing conditions.
British Columbia Premier David Eby said homes and properties had been destroyed, while some residents became trapped after conditions deteriorated quickly and had to be rescued.
“It remains a very dynamic and threatening situation,” Eby said during a press conference.
The wildfires have sent thick smoke across parts of the province, while emergency crews continue working to contain the flames and protect communities at risk.
Officials have urged residents in affected areas to follow evacuation orders and remain alert as authorities monitor the rapidly changing wildfire situation.
