At Least 933 Workers Trapped at Nepal Hydropower Projects After Devastating Floods

At least 933 workers are believed to be trapped at about six hydropower projects in Nepal following devastating floods that swept through parts of the country last week, authorities said Monday.

Nepal’s Disaster Management Authority said rescue operations are underway to reach the stranded workers as emergency relief efforts continue in flood-affected areas.

The floods have caused widespread destruction, damaging roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure while cutting off access to several affected communities.

Authorities are also continuing search-and-rescue operations for people reported missing after floods and landslides struck various parts of the country.

Officials are assessing damage to hydropower facilities and other essential infrastructure as rescue teams work to reach those trapped and provide assistance to affected communities.

The disaster has raised concerns over the safety of workers and residents in remote areas, where damaged roads and bridges are making rescue and relief operations more difficult.
