The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Plateau State University, Bokkos chapter, has declared a total and indefinite strike over what it described as the university management’s failure to address its six-point list of demands.
The union announced the industrial action on Wednesday following a congress meeting, after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university administration on August 11, 2026.
In a statement signed by the chapter’s Chairperson, Vincent D. Choji, and Secretary, Lomka Kopdiya, ASUU said its demands remained unresolved despite the expiration of the ultimatum.
The demands include the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme, full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement, and payment of salary arrears dating back to January 1, 2026.
The union also called for the provision of safe and secure staff quarters, construction of trenches around the university’s perimeter fence, and an end to what it described as intimidation of union leaders.
ASUU further demanded payment of 22 months of arrears relating to the 25/35 per cent wage award.
The union said its congress was convinced that none of the six demands had been satisfactorily addressed.
Following approval from the ASUU National Executive Council, the congress resolved to commence the strike immediately.
The union therefore directed all its members to suspend academic activities until further notice.
