The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, on Saturday paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, at the historic Rumfa Palace in Kano.
The meeting, which took place on August 22, 2026, was held behind closed doors, and details of the discussions were not made public.
A close associate of the Emir, Muhammad Dallatu, confirmed the visit, saying Yilwatda met with Sanusi shortly after the monarch returned from Abuja.
The visit comes amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections and the longstanding dispute over the Kano Emirate.
The emirship crisis dates back to 2019, when the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje divided the Kano Emirate into five and removed Sanusi as Emir of Kano, replacing him with Aminu Ado Bayero.
In 2024, the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf repealed the law establishing the five emirates and reinstated the Kano Emirate under Sanusi, who returned to the throne as the 16th Emir of Kano.
However, the move did not completely resolve the dispute, as Bayero retained the support of some political and traditional interests.
Yilwatda’s visit to Sanusi is therefore expected to attract political attention, particularly as the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections.
Neither the APC nor the Kano Emirate disclosed the specific issues discussed or the outcome of the meeting.
