The Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Chiamaka Nnake, has explained her involvement with the Made-in-Nigeria Office, an organisation recently identified by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) as a purported fake agency.
ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, said the organisation was uncovered during investigations into a fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council allegedly operated by Adeyemi Matthew. He disclosed that the purported Made-in-Nigeria Office had obtained office space within the premises of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
According to the ICPC, the organisation also had coordinators across Nigeria and ambassadors in countries including the United States and China.
Following the discovery, President Bola Tinubu ordered the suspension of three permanent secretaries allegedly connected to the operation and directed the arrest of the organisation's alleged Director-General.
Amid the controversy, Nnake clarified that her involvement was limited to being nominated as Anambra State's focal person.
She explained that the Anambra State Government received a letter from the purported office in January 2026 requesting each state to nominate a focal person. Governor Chukwuma Soludo subsequently nominated her in February.
Nnake said focal persons from the 36 states were then added to a WhatsApp group where they discussed activities and programmes linked to the organisation.
She added that the organisation later requested that Anambra host the South-East Made-in-Nigeria Fair, which the state government approved. An inaugural meeting was held about two weeks ago, after which a committee began preparations for the event scheduled for December 2–5, 2026.
However, Nnake said the state government believed the organisation was legitimate until the ICPC exposed it as a purported fake agency.
She stressed that her involvement was limited to official communications concerning her nomination and preparations for the proposed fair.
Nnake said she had no knowledge of, or connection with, any other activities or claims attributed to the organisation.
Her clarification came after reports circulated linking her name and photograph to the purported agency, prompting questions about her role.
