President Bola Tinubu on Thursday received Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where the governor presented his Certificate of Return following his re-election.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, arrived at the State House at about 5:25 p.m. His visit came days after he was declared winner of the August 15 Osun governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
Following the announcement of the results, President Tinubu personally congratulated Adeleke on his victory and described the election outcome as an assurance that democracy would continue to thrive in Nigeria.
Adeleke won 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11, giving the governor a margin of 66,252 votes.
The meeting between Tinubu and Adeleke has attracted political attention, particularly as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Several Osun political figures accompanied Adeleke to the Presidential Villa, including Senator Lere Oyewumi, Sunday Bisi, Chief of Staff Akinleye Kazeem and Bamidele Salam, a member of the House of Representatives.
Adeleke’s re-election was also notable because he contested under the Accord Party after the Osun chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) adopted his candidacy and supported his bid.
The governor later visited former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in Abuja after his meeting with President Tinubu.
