ABU Medical Graduate Becomes First Doctor in Her Family, Receives Outstanding Leadership Award

Dr Aisha Asila Ahmed, a newly qualified medical doctor from the College of Medical Sciences at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), has celebrated a double achievement after becoming the first medical doctor in her family and receiving an Outstanding Leadership Award from the university.

The graduate shared the milestone on X on August 27, 2026, expressing gratitude for the recognition.

Ahmed was honoured for her service as Assistant Class Representative of the MBBS graduating class for the 2016–2023 session. The award recognised her contributions to the leadership and welfare of her classmates.

After completing the demanding seven-year medical programme, Ahmed said the award was particularly meaningful to her.

She wrote:

> “Beyond taking the oath, I am truly honoured to have received an Outstanding Leadership Award in recognition of my contribution to the leadership of my class as Assistant Class Representative.”

She added that it was a recognition she would carry with gratitude.

The achievement has attracted attention because Ahmed not only completed her medical training but also made history as the first doctor in her family.

Her story highlights both academic perseverance and leadership, marking an important milestone in her professional journey.
