A total of 163 residents abducted from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have reunited with their families after receiving medical treatment in Ilorin for more than two weeks.
The victims were among residents kidnapped during the February 3 attack on Woro community. They were later rescued during a coordinated security operation in the Kainji Lake National Park forest.
Following their rescue, the abductees were taken to Ilorin for medical attention before being transported back to Kaiama for a reunion with their families.
The development was announced on Thursday in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kaiama Local Government Chairman, MD Baniya.
The victims were escorted to Kaiama by the council chairman, Abubakar Danladi, the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Omar Shehu Muazu, and the Kiwazi of Wojibe, Ahmed Ibn Mohammad.
The return was marked by emotional scenes as relatives welcomed their loved ones after weeks of uncertainty and anxiety.
Danladi also expressed appreciation to the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, for his advocacy and support during the victims' captivity.
He further thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for their efforts and support in securing the abductees' release.
The APC governorship candidate also commended the Emir of Kaiama and the Kaiama Emirate Council, as well as community groups, unions and Woro indigenes at home and abroad, for their prayers and contributions toward the safe return of the victims.
The reunion brings relief to families who had spent weeks waiting for the safe return of their relatives.
