US military operations killed 153 civilians and injured 243 others in 2025, according to a Pentagon assessment submitted to the US Congress.
The figures represent a significant increase from 2024, when the Pentagon recorded two civilian deaths and two injuries linked to US military operations.
According to the report, all the civilian casualties recorded in 2025 resulted from three US airstrikes in Yemen in April 2025. The US Central Command assessed that the strikes were “more likely than not” to have caused civilian harm.
The Pentagon also stated that, as of February 2026, US Central Command was reviewing 15 additional incidents in Yemen following reports received from non-governmental organisations.
The US military says its operations in Yemen are aimed at weakening the capabilities of Iran-backed Houthi militants.
The Pentagon assessment did not include casualties from US strikes against vessels in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. US Southern Command said that, as of February 1, 2026, it had not identified any 2025 incidents in its area of responsibility where civilian casualties were more likely than not caused by US military operations.
The Trump administration has also carried out strikes against vessels it accused of transporting narcotics in the Eastern Pacific, describing those targeted as “narco-terrorists.” According to a Reuters tally, the strikes have killed more than 200 people since September 2025.
Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have criticised the vessel strikes as unlawful extrajudicial killings, while the American Civil Liberties Union has described the administration’s claims about those targeted as unsubstantiated.
The Pentagon report was independently verified by PUNCH Online on Wednesday through the US Department of War website.
